Sam Drukker, Portraits with a Soul

Fearless, vulnerable, inscrutable… the men and women portrayed by Sam Drukker (1957) always display a strong personality. Drukker has become a leading figure in the movement of Contemporary Realism over the last decennium. He graduated at Academy Minerva, where he was trained by Matthijs Röling, amongst others. After graduating, Drukker quickly began developing his very own expressive style and techniques. The artist uses a broad palette of colours, ranging from sublte pastel hues to more vivid colours. An important source of inspiration for Drukker was the Dutch 19th century painter Isaac Israëls, who applied the same characteristic broad brushstroke.
